Senior Backend Developer
St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada


CoLab is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join our team. This person will be responsible for designing and implementing core components of the CoLab application and supporting infrastructure. The ideal candidate has displayed a commitment to getting things done, is people-centric and can ultimately help us develop the best collaboration platform for engineers. 


  • Design, document, implement and test server components, APIs and integrations.
  • Investigate, evaluate and implement new backend and cloud technologies.
  • Partner with front-end developers to define API interfaces and support new feature development.
  • Carry out devops tasks such as provisioning infrastructure, deploying code and maintaining various cloud services.
  • Participate in code reviews and help your team deliver high-quality software.
  • Optimize existing and new features for speed and scalability.
  • Contributing to company and product vision, ideation and planning.
  • Mentor and be an information source to junior developers.

Required Skills

  • 3+ years as a back-end or fullstack web developer
  • Knowledge of relational databases, object-relational mapping tools and SQL
  • Experience with AWS technologies such as EC2, RDS, S3, etc. (Azure experience a plus)
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript and HTML
  • Experience with various testing frameworks would be considered an asset
  • Experience with devops technologies such as Terraform and or Ansible would be considered an asset
  • Experience developing third-party API integrations would be considered an asset


CoLab is a collaborative design review and issue tracking platform for engineering teams and their supply chains. Think Jira + the Pull Request process, but specifically built into 3D models for Mechanical Engineering teams. Our current focus is helping teams shorten design cycles, eliminate painful manual processes and tools (spreadsheets/slideshows) and catch issues before they become expensive changes. In the future we will become the Atlassian for Manufacturing and set the new standard for engineering collaboration.
